ProActive Pilates AnatomyA solid understanding of anatomy is the first step for a person to become a Pilates instructor. This course will be taught by Julie Gerhardt, a Penticton physiotherapist who specializes in the pelvic floor and spinal rehabilitation. The goal of this course will be to name and locate all musculoskeletal structures relevant to movement. It will be a detailed 20 hour study of the bones, muscles, postural assessment, muscle palpation and movement descriptions. Course format will be lecture, discussion and practical applications.

IMP provides you with the solid foundation and skills you need to develop effective and motivating group and personal training programs. This course teaches you to design and teach the Level 1 (Essential and Intermediate) Matwork repertoire, integrating light accessories to add variety and meet the specific needs of your clients. In addition to the general course objectives, you will learn:

  • STOTT PILATES Mat Course Workout composition for personal and group training
  • Essential, Intermediate, Power workouts
  • Flex-Band, Fitness Circle and Arc Barrel workouts
  • Effective communication and observational skills, verbal cueing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation
  • Modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions
  • Theory and practice of postural analysis
  • Exercise layering related to effective program design
  • 63 exercises plus multiple modifications

Prerequisites

  • Working knowledge of functional anatomy
  • Minimum 30 hours Pilates classes/workouts
  • Three-plus years teaching movement or fitness

Duration

  • 40 hours instruction and supervised teaching
  • Minimum 10 hours observation
  • Minimum 30 hours physical review
  • Minimum 15 hours practice teaching
  • Conducted over 2 weeks or 3 weekends

Stability Chair STOTT PilatesIntensive Reformer, Module 1 – IR1

This course teaches how to design and instruct EssentialReformer workouts in a personal training and group setting for a range of clients. Learn a variety of modifications and variations to expand programming options. In addition to the general course objectives, you will learn:

  • Effective use of the Reformer to enhance torso stability andstrength, peripheral conditioning, joint stability, flexibility, balance and coordination
  • How to develop programs for personal and group classes
  • Essential and Power workouts
  • Effective communication and observation skills, verbal cueing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation
  • Modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions
  • Theory and practice of postural analysis
  • How to incorporate resistance equipment to support or intensify exercises
  • Exercise layering for effective program design
  • 74 exercises plus multiple modifications

Prerequisites:

  • Working knowledge of functional anatomy
  • Minimum 30 hours Pilates classes/workouts
  • Three-plus years teaching movement or fitness

Duration:

  • 30 hours instruction
  • In addition, students are required to complete: Minimum 6 hours observation
  • Minimum 25 hours physical review
  • Minimum 15 hours practice teaching
  • Total: 46 hours
