During pregnancy, the pelvic floor becomes a muscle that a woman is ever so aware of. Some common thoughts that go thru a pregnant woman's mind: How is this baby going to fit thru that small opening? And should I be strengthening it or should I be learning to let it relax? Many women are taught that they should be doing "kegels" during and after pregnancy. Yet, are left with so little information on where and how much to contract within the pelvic floor.

Kegels are pelvic floor exercises which are taught to strengthen the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor is all the muscles between the pubic bone and tailbone. When the pelvic floor is WEAK it will cause incontinence, back pain and body misalignment. When the pelvic floor is too TIGHT, it can also cause incontinence, back pain and body misalignment. Specific and detailed direction needs to be given.

Pro-Acitve Pilates is a studio specializing in the correct strengthening of the pelvic floor. This studio works closely with a physiotherapist who specializes in pelvic floor and alignment, Julie Gerhardt.
